Naomi lost her husband and both sons in a foreign country. She told her daughters-in-law to go back home. One did. Ruth refused: 'Your people will be my people, your God my God.'
Back in Bethlehem, broke, Ruth went out to glean leftover grain in a field. The field belonged to Boaz, a wealthy relative. He noticed her, fed her, protected her.
