Esther, a Jewish orphan raised by her cousin Mordecai, won a kingdom-wide pageant and became queen of Persia. She kept her heritage secret.
An advisor named Haman got the king to sign an order to kill every Jew in the empire. Mordecai told Esther: speak up. She fasted three days, then walked uninvited into the throne room โ a death-penalty move.
The king extended his scepter. Over two dinners she exposed Haman. He was hanged on the gallows he'd built for Mordecai. The Jews fought back and won.
